WØVFW Show and Tell
Members of the WØVFW Radio Club gathered together for a “show and tell” activity on 2/20/21 at a local Spangles restaurant to show off their latest projects.
KEØVIL (Bill) brought along his home built HF “slinky” 40 meter dipole antenna. Along with the tripod for raising the antenna to about 9 ft., Bill says he spent about $85 to construct his masterpiece. He said it was designed for fast deployment in the field.
KFØAMJ (Ron) dazzled us with the Commander 857 go box from Hardened Power Systems that belongs to KN6ALY (Shaun). All nicely fitting in a fat 50 ammo can is a Yeasu 857, 20 AH lifepo4 battery bank, composed of two Dakota 10 AH batteries. Real-time power usage meter on the front panel, shows & records voltage and min/max amps & watts of power draw. Also tucked in there is an internal 3 stage AC charge controller, and 3 stage solar controller, accepting up to 60 watts of solar power.
KEØTGA (Patricia) demonstrated how easy it was to program the Baofeng UV-5R radio without using software. There were only a few clicks a person needed to know to program frequencies, including repeaters, in the radio.
